News for the Community from Superintendent/Principal Dobosz – 8/2/2020

Dear Community:

Hope you are staying cool with the oppressive humidity.  The weather forecast is predicting some severe thunderstorms and rain for this evening.  I usually know a storm is on the way because my dogs ~ Bear and Rosey are underfoot!  They are so afraid of the storms and just follow me around all day.

Last week the School Committee met to discuss the DRAFT Reopening Plan for Worthington. As I wrote in my letter Friday afternoon, the rural character of our community allows our faculty to plan for the outdoors to be the primary classroom.  We plan to create varied learning spaces using our expansive backyard, garden, and woods.  Teachers will develop lessons where students can read and write outdoors, and the natural environment will act as a resource for math and science standards.  We are planning for tents in order to create shade and cover for cohorts.

We invite you to share your questions, comments, and ideas to help inform and strengthen our plans.  Please complete the Return to School Survey NO LATER than Tuesday, August 4th

We will keep you informed about our progress in developing a final plan. I am confident that we can prioritize both safety and learning as we prepare for the start of a successful school year.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation in these difficult times.

Please be aware that the School Committee voted to change the calendar to have a September 8th start date for students.  This allows time for additional Staff Development days at the start of the school year.

Upcoming this week:

  • The School Committee will meet again on Thursday, August 6th @6:30.  This is the public hearing for the FY21 school budget.
