Thanks to a joint effort by the Worthington Parks and Recreation Committee, along with the funding for the walkability maps and kiosk from the Massachusetts Community Health and Healthy Aging Funds, administered by Hilltown Community Development in partnership with the Collaborative for Educational Services’ Healthy Hampshire program and numerous volunteers, a kiosk has been placed in Packard Park.
Robert Sweeney, a well-known artist from Worthington, has gifted a painting named “Garden Visitors” to the town for this kiosk. Sweeney, who also teaches drawing and painting at Amherst College, is known for his landscape paintings. They depict scenes from locations as varied as Italy, the Oxbow in Western Massachusetts, and his wife Barbara’s backyard garden. “Garden Visitors” illustrates the colorful variety of butterflies, birds, insects and native plants in our area.
The opposite side of the kiosk will have a walkability map for the town of Worthington. Trails, trailheads, streams and points of interest are all to be seen on this map.
Graham Taylor of Worthington donated his time to build the finely constructed kiosk for everyone to enjoy. We invite everyone to stop by and view it, in its location next to the native pollinator garden.
