Local author and historian Steve V. Cormier
will give a talk about the Westfield River and his book,
The Sacrificial Land: Westfield River … ‘giveth & taketh’
The event is free, and anyone interested is invited!
He’ll discuss the direct impact that the Knightville and Littleville Dams had on the villages they displaced; controversies surrounding the dam projects, such as alternate water supply, Dayville Dam possibilities, and hydroelectricity; and how the Westfield River’s significant “Wild & Scenic” designation in 1993 was achieved, the first such designation within the state of Massachusetts.
This event is sponsored by a grant from the Worthington Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. It is co-hosted by The Worthington Library and The Worthington Historical Society.
