At our Annual Town Meeting, on May 2, 2026, the following article introduced by a citizens petition was passed:
To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Select Board to obtain an independent legal opinion, separate from current Town Counsel, regarding the Town’s authority and responsibilities in the review and permitting of current and future large-scale ground-mounted solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) installations, including long-term governance and enforcement; or take any action relative thereto.
In order to try and best address this request from Town Meeting, the Selectboard has asked the relevant town boards (The Conservation Commission, Planning Board and Board of Health) to each appoint someone to serve on a committee with a member of the Selectboard and a member of the community at large to consider this and present the Selectboard with a suggested path forward.
