Dear Citizens of Worthington,
We write to you on behalf of the Maples Senior Housing, a 501(c)3 non-profit, HUD-subsidized community housing project. This effort was initiated by caring citizens of Worthington nearly forty years ago to create affordable housing for our seniors and those with disabilities. The federal subsidies allow our cottage-style apartments to be affordable for our seniors who would otherwise not be able to find accessible housing in Worthington.
However, beyond housing, there is a critical need for structured physical, educational, and emotional well-being enrichment programs for our seniors. Research demonstrates that mental, physical, and social activities provide the foundation for senior wellness, well-being and independence. The Maples Board of Directors sponsors many of these programs for our residents and their families.
Each February, we sponsor a “We Love Our Residents” warm meal that we deliver to their apartments; during the summer we sponsor the Maples Annual Picnic for residents and their families; we deliver individual holiday gift bags during December; and board members host twice monthly bingo games in the common room. At each bingo event, we provide a snack as well as $5 gifts for bingo winners. These social events enhance the sense of community and connectedness among our residents.
The Board of Directors of The Maples has created an account that allows for direct donations that can be used for these programs. HUD funds cannot be used for enrichment programs, so we are asking for a donation of ANY amount and are grateful for your support so we can continue offering these popular activities for our residents.
If you would like to donate to this special account, your check may be made out to The Maples and sent to the address above. Please write “donation” in the memo of the check. Your donation is fully tax-deductible, and you will receive an acknowledgement letter. Thank you on behalf of the Maples Board of Directors and the residents of the Maples.
