Dear Community:

Thank you so much for your cooperation with the changes during  pick-up.  We appreciate your patience and understanding!

We are excited for the upcoming Valentine’s Day Dance which is next Friday, February 9.  Just a reminder that all students need to attend the dance with a chaperone.  Several of our sixth graders have volunteered to decorate and clean up after the dance.

WALK to School Day:  Please join us as we walk to school on Wednesday, February 7, 2024!!!!  Buses will be dropping students off at the Worthington Golf Club that morning. Staff will be there to greet students, and walk down Ridge Rd. to school together! Caregivers that drive their student(s) to school should plan to drop off  their student(s) at the Golf Club no later than 8:30am.  Please make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather.  If you cannot be at the golf course by 8:30 a.m., please drop your child off at the school for morning recess.  We will have a couple of teachers staying back at the school.  Also, once we all arrive at school anyone who would like breakfast will be able to go in and get into the cafeteria.

Hillside Pizza Orders:  Looking for volunteers to be at the school to help unload, and distribute pizza orders from 2:00 to about 3:45 on Friday, Feb 9.   Please email Max Breiteneicher at jmaximilianb@gmail.com.

Valentine’s Dance:  We are looking forward to the dance on Friday, Feb. 9 from 6:00 to 8:00.  We are looking for volunteers to help with set up and clean up.  Please contact the office at louellet@hr-k12.org if you would like to volunteer.

New last day of school:  Due to the snow day on January 24, 2024,  our new last day of school for Preschool is June 6 and for K – 6 it is June 13.

After-School Program Updates:

Girls On The Run during session 3 of the program

We are excited to offer Girls on the Run this Spring.  The spring season will begin March 11 and the 5K will be sometime during the first weekend in June (TBD). We will have practice on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please register by February 16 so we know if we have enough students to have a team this spring. Registration is now open. The link to register is here: www.girlsontherunwesternma.org  Please use the discount code: “Conwell” to have the registration fee waived.

Summer Program

The After-School Program will be offering a summer program starting July 8 and ending August 1.  The program will run Mondays through Thursdays from 8:45 am to 2:45 pm.  Students enrolled in R.H. Conwell in grades K to 6 are eligible to attend (K to 6 for the 23-24 school year).  There is no fee for attending the program due to funding through the DESE 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. Students must enroll/attend 80% of the program days.  This is a grant requirement and the program will be working on projects and activities that build off of eachother each day.  Students will be going on fun field trips that will connect with our projects.  More information and registration forms will be available next week.

Babysitting Course OFFERING:  We are partnering with UMASS Amherst’s 4-H Youth Development program to offer a full day babysitting course to students over April break for students 12 years and older. Mature 11 year olds will be considered as well if availability allows. The training course teaches youth what they need to know to be caring, trustworthy, responsible, and competent babysitters. The course will help develop confidence in handling various situations while babysitting, and will cover topics such as general safety, first aid, child development, nutrition, entertaining children, and the business of babysitting. All youth that complete the course will receive a babysitter’s ID, certificate of completion, 4-H babysitting manual, and first aid supplies.  We have confirmed the class will be held Wednesday, April 17 from 8:30am-3pm at R.H. Conwell.  If interested, please contact Nurse Steph at sfaas@hr-k12.org.

News from Hilltown Health Center:  Parent Powered (formerly called Ready4K) now serves families with children from birth to 12th grade (formerly 8th grade.)  Parents can sign up by texting HCHC to 70138 or through me.  Here is an updated flyer.

Preschool Open House:   Are you interested in signing your little one  up for preschool?  Come join us on March 9, 2024 from 9-11 a.m. to meet the preschool team and tour the preschool classroom.   All interested families are welcome to join us at 8:00 a.m. for a homemade pancake breakfast and then join us in preschool at 9:00.  All proceeds will be for future Nature’s Classroom trips.

Update from the Nurse’s Office:
Please send your children to school with warm outerwear! It is critical students have warm coats, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves/mittens to safely play outside.

We have many  Covid-19 antigen tests on hand. They expire at the end of March. Please let us know if you would like any! We can send them home with your student, or feel free to stop by and grab some from the nursing office.

Thank you!
