Conwell Sunday 2023

South Worthington Church Association
Worthington, Massachusetts

You are invited… join us for the annual
South Worthington Conwell Sunday celebration!

Our yearly gathering will be held on Sunday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m. and features a light-hearted recreation of an oldtime Sunday School. Following our 2022 program, we rediscovered teachers’ ledgers and other materials from the 1876 Sabbath School held in the church. Wth that as our guide, we are hosting an interactive event in which attendees have the chance to play a student at the school. Choose one of the student names available as you enter the church and see how your alter ego fared long ago!

We are privileged this year to welcome David James, pianist, and Christopher James, cellist, representing the second and third generations of the Schrade-James family of concert artists, who will provide the music for our program on the old pump organ, piano and cello. The afternoon will conclude with light refreshments.

A free-will offering will be gratefully accepted to help us maintain this beautiful old building, included in the South Worthington National Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. We continue to raise funds needed to add flashing to the base of the steeple roof, followed by painting of the metal roof. We have yet to find a contractor who is willing to take on this project, so please contact us of you have any suggestions (or “connections’) that will lead to success in having the work done!

We look forward to seeing you again for the annual South Worthington/Conwell Sunday, celebrating the pioneers who founded the early worship tradition here, honoring the memory of those who inhabited the víllage in years past (most notably native son Russell Conwell), and saluting the friends and neighbors who cherish and support their continuation.
