My closing argument:

In our system of representative government you need to be connected with the people. I would like to be that connection.
I believe this particular moment in time poses the greatest threat our town has faced in my lifetime. That’s why I feel compelled to run for select person. I feel this threat is real enough and grave enough to fight with more than just my words but also with my time.
What is this threat?
It’s the loss of our ability to have a say in what happens to and in our town. It’s the loss of our home rule. It’s having our desires and concerns becoming irrelevant.
When outside, often foreign owned, for profit corporations insist OUR property becomes nothing but a parking lot for THEIR Solar Panels and Battery Storage Systems on an industrial scale, AND can’t be stopped, we’re at risk of losing, not only our property, but also the rural and scenic character of our town. This is not business as usual!
What I’ve also heard is that in this critical moment, people feel disconnected from local government. I think my becoming a part of this Selectboard may help people feel reconnected. People know me, my history, and my love for this town. Being a selectman is more than facing policy issues, it’s about valuing old relationships while forming new ones, and honoring all relationships with the promise that I will give Representative governance my best efforts.
