Friday Night Cafe

A fun double bill coming up at the Cafe on April 12Jack Swindlehurst will take the first set.

Jack grew up listening to music borrowed from the local library in Middletown, CT; The Kingston Trio, the Chad Mitchell Trio, Beethoven, The Smothers Brothers and the Beatles. They all influenced Jack’s early creative drive to write songs of love and life. Some forty years and seventy songs later, Jack still performs a few of those early original works. Later influences were Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, The Band, Leon Redbone, and many more including just plain muse.

Jack is still writing songs and the subject matter is still Love and Life.

Following Jack will be The Old Fashioneds

The Old Fashioneds, based out of Western Mass/VT, began singing together outside a neighborhood bar in Philadelphia late one night in 2010, and haven’t stopped since! Driven by tight three-part harmony and a strong rhythmic pulse, they draw repertoire from old-time fiddle tunes, bluegrass standards, Cajun dance music & early country. Across genre, they interpret old songs with deep feeling and respect for tradition.

The Old Fashioneds bring warmth and heart that connects easily with audiences in settings from intimate concerts to square dances to rowdy barrooms. They spent years playing around venues in Philadelphia, toured New England, the Midwest, and Southeast, and have played 9:30 Club (DC) and Nelsonville Music Festival (OH).

The band’s longtime members are Chenda Cope (bass, fiddle, guitar), Jen Smith (guitar, banjo) and Leo Moskowitz (fiddle). oldfashioneds@bandcamp.com
