The Town of Worthington is an Equal Opportunity Employer

To the selectpeople, I am totally amazed, that after what an awesome job Devon Wolf and his crew have done over the last year to clean up the mess Cork Nugent left behind, you have chosen not to allow Devon to fix our town roads with his expertise and the Taxpayer bought equipment he has maintained and is on the road daily. I don’t believe there is any state law requiring us to put culvert work out to bid and if their is its irrelevant. (up until Cork) previous highway superintendents always did the work on our town roads .Thru your actions you have put the Town of Worthington hanging on a frozen limb which appears half sawed off, just in time for Winter. Scott Smith
Thanks for the comment. The town is not currently putting any culvert work out to bid. I’m not sure where that’s coming from. Yes we have in the past and it is something that is typically been done depending on the size of the job, the priority of need and what our current personnel and workload is looking like. We do have a grant from the state, thanks to our Senator, Paul Mark, and were considering using some of those funds to pay for a series of culverts that need replacement. It wasn’t practical for this season, so the town crew is in fact taking care of the highest priority one.
Devon has decided to retire, this is certainly not our choice as Town Administrators. Devon has been doing a great job and we are very disappointed to lose him, but it’s certainly his choice as to when he’d like to retire and we will wish him well.
I support Scott Smith’s comments. The Select Board has mismanaged its supervision of the Highway Department and its facilities for many years, ignoring the incompetence of the former Superintendent. If the Select Board can’t figure out how to manage this department, maybe the current members should just resign.
