Route 143 Road Closure

Old North Road, (Route 143) will be closed
Between East Windsor & Bashan Hill Roads
for 2-3 weeks beginning Monday, July 21, 2025.

The construction company has run into an unexpected problem while building a retaining wall, just west of East Windsor Rd. In order to build the retaining wall, they are finding that there isn’t enough stability to shore up a remaining travel lane to allow for a single lane of traffic at that point. So that portion of Old North Road will be closed while they build the retaining wall. They hope to accomplish this in 2 weeks, but may take as long as 3.

Residents on either side of the construction, between East Windsor and Bashan Hill Roads will continue to have access from either side, but there will be no through traffic.

So the detour will be up west bound, directing traffic down East Windsor Road and into the middle of Peru. East bound, traffic will be directed up Lindsay Hill Rd, which will be open in each direction. That said, PLEASE TAKE CARE AND DRIVE SLOWLY IF YOU’RE TAKING LINDSAY HILL ROAD. The road is a narrow dirt road with several blind curves. Additional speed signs and caution signs to drive slowly will be up.

The next section of blasting, closer to the Peru line, will not take place, till after this work is completed. That’s expected to happen in early August. We’ll give you a heads up.

Also, we are aware of the problem with the dip in the road around the fire pond, just past Listons. They are planning on repairing that on Friday.

We’ll continue to provide updates as we get them. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Selectboard at sboard@worthington-ma.us or feel free to give Charley Rose a call at 413-519-1731.

  1. Charlie- the “bump” near the fire pond near Liston’s seems to be collapsing. Someone coming unaware could break an axle or worse, crash. Better signage needed right away, and possibly a steel plate is required.

Thanks Sue. I spoke to DOT today and they are planning on fixing/asphalting it on Friday.

In addition to the signs, as a resident living 25 ft off Lindsay Hill Road, I would like to see periodic police enforcement of a reasonable speed limit during peak travel times.

    1. We agree 100 percent!!
