Pot Holes!

We received lots of comments about Pot Holes after posting about Mud Season last week. The stretch of Old North Road from Listons to the Peru line is particularly bad, as we all know.

The good news, long term, is that the extensive reconstruction of that stretch of road gets underway this summer. The bad news is the initial work being done this summer is mostly all prep work along the rights of way and does not involve improving the actual surface of the road. It’ll be summer 2026 berfore that happens.

So in the meantime, keeping the road passable is up to our Highway Department. They have been doing what they can with gravel and cold patch, but the reality is that those fixes just don’t hold up. What’s needed is hot patch, which as the name implies, is picked up and applied while it’s still warm and then it sets much more semi-permanently. Since we don’t have a heated trailer the hot top like a larger operation does, we have to pick it up as near-by as we can so that it’s still hot when we get back to town and apply it. Easthampton is the closest and they don’t start producing the product until it’s sufficiently warm outside. Closer to the end of March.

The Highway Department will pick-up and patch the potholes as soon as the materials are available.

Thanks,
