Dear Community:

Message from Historical Society about the South Worthington Field Trip: The entire RH Conwell student body arrived at the Church at 9:00 AM for a field trip on June 13th organized by the Worthington Historical Society, in conjunction with our invaluable and talented hosts, The Ladies of the S. Worthington Church Preservation Society (Julie Pike and Laurie Flechsig) and The Sevenars Music Festival (Rorianne Schrade). Julie spoke to the children about the building’s history; Rorianne played the 19th Century pump organ and led the youngsters in song and Maddy Cahill led the children in a participatory Sunday School lesson with Pat Kennedy, who also assisted in the lesson plan based on a historic re-enactment of a Sunday School Service that would have been conducted in 1876.

The service was followed by a presentation on RH Conwell in the Sevenars Hall, (the Conwell Academy building which he constructed there); the recitation of a Conwell poem; a slide show on the area’s history; lunch on the lawn for the children and then, a 90 minute nature hike up Conwell trail past Conwell pond with a narrated tour. The tour included a hands-on program identifying the trees, rocks and the natural attractions of the areas, including the birds and animal life that inhabit the local forest. The children then hiked to Conwell’s birthplace, home of Stonepool Pottery, (Pam Thompson and Mark Shapiro) and then were generously hosted by Marjorie & Chuck Johnson at the former Tuttle Farm on Conwell Road where the children, teachers- and the numerous volunteers were served popcorn and lemonade on the lawn.

Special thanks to the Principal and Teachers that so eagerly participated in the day. In addition to Julie Pike, Laurie Flechsig and Rorianne Schrade, whose contributions to the day were invaluable. The day could not have happened without Madeleine Cahill, Ben Brown, Gloria Conwell and Sean Barry who gave so generously in terms of their time, knowledge and kindness to the pupils.

Certified Babysitters: We hosted a babysitter certification course over April vacation, and have compiled a list (with parent permission) of newly certified babysitters for the school community for any families looking for childcare. Please contact the parent listed to coordinate.

News from the school nurses:

We have been in contact with the Dental Operations Manager at Hilltown Community Health Centers, and are looking to partner with them for the upcoming school year to bring dental services to students while in school! We hope that offering this service will increase accessibility to families to have their students’ oral health needs met without having to take time off from work, as well as reduce the time on learning students miss while receiving this essential care.

If you would be interested in taking advantage of this service, please complete this form. Completing the form is not a binding commitment to signing up for services. We are simply gauging interest to see if this is a service our school community would utilize.

Thank you!

Next School Year: A friendly reminder that we need updated physicals (within a year) for all students entering preschool, kindergarten, and grades 1 and 4. Please make sure these are sent to the Nurses before the first day of school in August!

Harvest Of The Month: STRAWBERRIES

We can provide treats for special celebrations in the classrooms. Please check out the link here for more information and the order form.

Upcoming Events:

June 17: Last Day of School – NOON dismissal

August 26, 2024: Back to School PotLuck at the school beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Warmly,
Gretchen Morse-Dobosz
