Dear Community:

A HUGE thank you to John Porcino, our Artists in Resident, who spent the last month and a half with our Conwell students practicing the art of storytelling!  Today, students shared their stories with other Conwell students and families!  Thanks to all the family members who came during the day to listen to the stories!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  We have 11 days left of the school year.  Please check the upcoming events for all of the end-of-the-school-year happenings!

NEED VOLUNTEERS:  We are looking for FIELD DAY VOLUNTEERS!  Field Day is on June 4, 2024.  We will have 8 activity stations set up for field day.  We will need at least one adult at each station – please email me if you can help – gfacchetti@hr-k12.org

All volunteers will need to arrive at the school by 10 am. Stations will be done at 12:30.

PUBLIC SAFETY DAY:  R.H. Conwell’s First Public Safety Day will have the Worthington Fire Department, the Worthington Police Department, State Police Fire Marshals with their K9, and the State Police Air Wing.  This event will take place on Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m.

Message from Ms. Lexi:  Now that I have completed my master’s degree, I am incredibly sad to share that this will be my last school year at RH Conwell.  The last two school years have been rewarding for me on both a personal and professional level.  The school community here is without a doubt one of the most supportive I’ve seen, and it goes without saying how much I will miss being a part of it.  I’m currently seeking a full-time position and will let you know where I land.  In the meantime, please let me know if I can further support your kiddos with this transition.

RH Conwell’s BIKE RODEO is TOMORROW, June 1st!: STUDENTS MUST HAVE A HELMET TO PARTICIPATE and need to bring their bicycles to ride.  If you are attending, please park at the GoldenRod Inn or the Church as the school parking lot will be used for the festivities!

SAVE THE DATE FOR our Second Annual ARTS Night:  Arts Night will be held on Wednesday, June 5th 6:00 to 7:15.  See the agenda below.

Showcasing: School day artwork and music students, After-School Program music students and student work

  • 6:00 to 6:30 Families can walk around to look at student work
  • 6:30 to 7:00 Music Performances
  • 7:00 to 7:15 Final chance to walk through to look at student work

SCREEN-FREE DAYS: On behalf of the wellness committee, we want to extend our apologies for not getting screen-free day information out to the community last week. In the hustle and bustle of all of the fun end-of-the-year school events, and especially- bike rodeo planning, we did not get this together in time. While we will not reschedule a formal screen-free week at RH Conwell this school year, we will plan to prioritize this in the 24-25 school year. That said, we encourage all families to consider instituting a screen-free week in your own home, either now, or over the summer.

Research shows that children who watch less TV are more likely to read well and to be physically fit. Instead of watching TV or playing video games, their time can be spent reading, playing, thinking, creating, getting physical activity, and spending more quality time with friends and family. Each week, American children spend more time in front of a screen than they do in school! Screen-free weeks are a great way to jump-start our kids into more reading, learning, and active play. Have fun with it!!

News from the school nurses:
The sun’s rays are strong now and our winter softened skin can burn. Your students are outdoors more and more.
A few basic Sun Safety measures can help protect your child’s skin during the school day:Applying sun-screen before school that is SPF 30 or higherEncouraging your children to wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses during outdoor activitiesDressing children in cool, comfortable clothing that covers the body, like lightweight cotton pants and long-sleeved shirts
In Massachusetts’s schools, sunscreen is considered an over-the-counter medication. Sunscreen is included in our Over the Counter (OTC) meds on the Emergency form you completed at the beginning of the school year. We stock the brand NO AD SPF 30. Sunscreen may also be provided by the parent and kept in the school’s health office. For the overall safety of all of our students and to protect those who may have an allergy or medical condition, sunscreen should not be in spray form. For further information or questions, please reach out to Nurse Meg and Nurse Steph.Tick season is upon us! Please make sure to check your younger students for ticks when they get home, and encourage your older students to do a self check as well. More information on tick-borne disease prevention can be found here
Harvest Of The Month: SEAFOOD  This week the students got to try Shrimp! Many of the students took a sample of shrimp, and a lot of them came back for seconds and some thirds! They suggested we serve shrimp more often! I’m glad so many students sampled it!
We can provide treats for special celebrations in the classrooms.  Please check out the link here for more information and the order form.
