Dear Community:
Welcome Back! It’s been wonderful to see all the students settle so nicely into their classroom routines! These last three days, I’ve enjoyed visiting the classrooms and hearing about everyone’s summer adventures. This August, I dropped my daughter off at college for her freshman year, and I’m officially an empty nester!
Over the summer, Mr. Wolf worked tirelessly to complete the summer building task list and as always the building looks amazing ~ especially the newly waxed floors! If you happen to see Mr. Wolf, please make sure to thank him for all his hard work!
Just a reminder that there is NO school on Monday, and students will return on Tuesday, September 5, 2023!
Fire Drill: Students practiced responding to a fire drill this morning. Chief Michael DonDiego, and his staff arrived at Conwell and pulled the fire alarm around 10:00ish. All students did a fantastic job evacuating the building! A huge thanks to the Chief and his firefighter volunteers!
After-School Program: Registration forms for session one will be handed out to students in their classrooms on Friday, September 1. Forms should be returned to school day teachers or e-mailed to Shannon Madden by Friday, September 8. The program will begin on Monday, September 11. The program will be open on full days of school – Monday through Friday from 3:20 to 5:15 for grades 1st through 6th and will be open on Monday through Wednesday for kindergarten. The After-School Program is free to students thanks to two grants from the Department of Education (DESE) . DESE requires students to attend the program a minimum of 2 days a week. The fall activities will include: Mix It Up Monday, Imaginative Games, Drama, Art, Inventions & Science Lab, Innovation Hub, Girls on the Run, Golf at the Worthington Golf Club, Book Club, Instrument Lessons and Comics Club. For more information contact Shannon Madden, After-School Program Coordinator, at [email protected].
Coffee with the Principal: Throughout the year I look forward to meeting the new members of our community and connecting with returning community members. They are scheduled during morning drop off beginning at 8:30 a.m. and evening times that will be virtual. I will share an agenda with parents and topics for us to discuss. These gatherings are a great opportunity to meet new people and see old friends. Our first Annual Coffee will be in person on September 20 at 8:30AM beginning in the library and then parents will visit classrooms beginning at 8:55 a.m. to observe classroom Morning Meetings.
Open House: Will be on October 19 with a PTO sponsored dinner event beginning at 5:00PM. More information will be forthcoming.
Volunteers: We are looking for community members to substitute and/or volunteer at R.H. Conwell. And, currently we are looking for someone to consistently volunteer every FRIDAY FOR LUNCH DUTY. Please call Lisa at 413-238-5856.
PTO: Meetings will typically be on the third Thursday of each month with the next one scheduled on September 21 at 6:00PM. This will be a hybrid meeting.
Reminders from Nurse’s Office: The Mass Department of Public Health (MDPH) has health requirements for certain grades and newly entering students. The requirements are listed here. Each student needs to present to the school nurse documentation of a physical examination prior to school entry and at intervals of every three to four years thereafter. Newly entering Preschoolers: Physical exam (PE) within the last calendar year by school entry, Vision Screening (providers are required to do this during a PE,) Immunizations, and documentation of lead screening. Newly entering Kindergarteners: Same as preschoolers. First Graders: Physical Examination and Immunizations Fourth Graders: Physical Examination and Immunizations New Students (regardless of grade): Physical Examination and Immunizations Any student with a medical or religious exemption letter on file for immunizations must be updated annually. If you have not already turned in the required medical documentation for your student, please do so as soon as possible. Also, please feel free to reach out to Nurse Meg and Nurse Stephanie to verify if your student is missing any required documents, or if you have any health related concerns you would like to bring to our attention. Please include both Meg and Stephanie ([email protected] and [email protected]) in any email communications to the nurses’ office to ensure continuity of care for your student. We look forward to supporting the health and safety of our wonderful school community this year! Thank you for your collaboration! |
