R. H. Conwell News – 9/3/21

Dear R.H. Conwell Families,

This week I spent time visiting all the classrooms!  And, it was wonderful to welcome our preschoolers back to school on Thursday!  For so many of the preschoolers attending school is a new experience!

During my visits to the classrooms, there are rich conversations happening about the district’s KORR values, and teachers asking students to share examples about acts of kindness, optimism, respect, and responsibility.  Our ultimate goal is for these KORR values to be part of our school culture, and something that all students notice and practice on their own!  Below is a very short clip with an excellent example about how easy it is to show kindness!  Enjoy!

It Doesn’t Take that Much to Make Someone’s Day:  Follow the link to a very sweet news clip from The Sunday Morning Show.  What a nice reminder for all of us that it doesn’t take much to make someone’s day!

Doin’ the Hokey Pokey

Parent Volunteer:  We are seeking a parent volunteer every Monday from 11:30 -12:30 to support recess duty.  This volunteer position begins immediately.  Please contact the office at 413-238-5856 if you are interested.

Preschool Paraprofessional:  The district is seeking a paraprofessional for the preschool classroom.  Preschool runs from 8:15 – 3:30 Tuesday – Friday!  Please contact me at [email protected]  for more information.

Substitutes:  We are looking for classroom substitutes.  Please contact the main office for more information.

Lunch: Until further notice students will eat snacks and lunch outside.

  • Friday lunch:  Caregivers are welcome to join Friday lunch.  We are limiting lunch to three caregivers per class.   The K-2 lunch begins at 12:00 and the 3-6 lunch begins at 12:35.  Please sign up to attend Friday lunch using the following link.  The next family lunch will be Friday, September 10, 2021.
  • If you would like to purchase school lunch the cost is $4.00.  While attending family lunch, we expect that caregivers will sign in at the front office, will wear a mask while they are inside, and find a spot outside with their child.  At that time, we ask that families be mindful of social distancing since masks are not required while outside.

PTO:  The PTO will hold their first in-person meeting on September 14 at 3:30.   Below  is the link to attend virtually.

Friendly Reminders/Updates from the Nurse’s Office:

  • If you have not yet returned the green medical emergency information form to the school (they were mailed home in August) please send it back in on Tuesday. Even if you have completed this form with registration paperwork, please fill out the green form as well (it has some updates on it). It is very important for us to have this information so that we can adequately provide care for your children and know who to call if needed. If you need a new form, please let Nurse Sam know ([email protected]).
  • You will all be receiving a letter home in the green folders regarding an upcoming handwashing activity that I will be doing with students during their designated health times next week. Please see that letter for more information and please let me know if you have any questions.
  • We have successfully completed our first week of full days back at school! Everyone seems so happy and is doing so well with all of our health and safety protocols in place. Friendly reminder to all families, please be sure to send spare masks with your children (all grades). If masks become wet or dirty during the day they are not as effective as a mitigation tool. Please also remind your children how to wear a mask properly, masks should be form fitting, and cover both the mouth and the nose completely. If your child is having difficulties keeping a cloth mask covering their nose, they may be asked to change their mask into a paper mask that will fit properly. I will also be discussing proper mask wearing during our upcoming health classes next week.

School Council:  We are looking for two parent representatives and a community representative to serve on the school council.  Please email me ASAP – [email protected] if you are interested.

PRESCHOOL FAMILIES:  Please review the Preschool drop off procedures

Families, please review Car RIder Clarifications
