Internet Access

As we all wait for Comcast to come and the need for connectivity increases with more of us working and educating from home, I thought it would be helpful to share what there is for open connectivity in town.

While Town Hall and The Library are closed, both Wifi networks continue to operate with access available from the parking lot. We are also working to get an open guest network at the R.H. Conwell as well, hopefully this week. All 3 are fiber connections and reliable.

I know that many in town are using AT&T hotspots in their homes. AT&T announced today (March 22, 2020):

As of March 13, 2020, and for the next 60 days, we will waive domestic wireless plan overage charges for data, voice or text for residential or small business wireless customers incurred because of economic hardship related to the coronavirus pandemic.

We’re also hearing anecdotal reports that Verizon now has better coverage in town, particularly on the west end of town. If anyone is successfully using Verizon cellular data, please let us know in the comments section below. So far, Verizon has not waived data caps however.

It looks like the new AT&T tower will be operable sometime this summer. Comcast, I’m afraid, isn’t likely to start offering service to anyone till next Fall at the earliest. I’m working on a Comcast update… Stay tuned.

Thanks,
Charley Rose

Verizon is the carrier for my work phone and MiFi hotspot. I never had any service when I was at home. Starting approximately 4 months ago, I started getting service on both devices, which has been more consistent and reliable than my AT&T phone.

Thanks Marianne. Can you share what part of town you are in?
