South Worthington Conwell Sunday

South Worthington Church

The South Worthington Church Association invites Hilltown residents to hear “A Salute to a South Worthington Character: The Legendary Jane Conwell Tuttle – Opera Singer, Author, Fortune Teller,” on South Worthington Sunday (also known as Conwell Sunday), at 1:00 p.m. on August 26 at the old South Worthington Church.  Sharing the details of a life well-lived by this amazing woman of her time, Madeleine Cahill will read from Jane’s memoir Life with Grandfather Conwell and His Acres of Diamonds, Julie Pike will recreate a portion of Jane’s operatic triumphs, and David James will provide music on the old pump organ.  Ms. Tuttle’s story intrigues: performances in European opera houses and for the troops during World War I, the writing of a witty memoir, appearances as a fortune-teller at an annual church fair, and more.

The South Worthington Church is opened for this special Sunday every year to honor our past and those who have helped form the character of the South Worthington Village.  A free-will offering will be taken to help defray costs of maintaining the church, a cornerstone of the South Worthington National Historical District on the National Register of Historic Places. The Association is a non-profit, and donations are used directly for repairs and improvements as needed.  Financial support and active involvement by the community is encouraged to ensure its survival.

All are welcome for this annual “Open Doors” event!
